Parents Guide to the Early Years Foundation Stage

National Literacy Trust – Early Years ‘What does literacy actually involve?’ Literacy covers speaking and listening and reading and writing. Literacy in the early years is particularly important for children as it gives them a head start in learning these essential life skills that they will use on a daily basis, as well as preparing them for when they begin school.

Baking 6.12.18

Our class have been having fun baking and following recipes this week. Hands-on cooking activities help children develop pride and confidence in their skills and abilities, boosts language skills and is a great opportunity to introduce some early maths concepts in a fun way. Plenty of mathematical language and equipment is used during cooking; adding, reducing, weighing, scales and measuring. Following the steps in a recipe also helps children learn about sequencing.
